Road infrastructure in terms of safety

Road infrastructure in terms of safety

Road infrastructure research involves evaluating the safety and performance of road equipment components. The work carried out relates in particular to road restraint systems and support structures for road equipment. The tests are carried out in accordance with applicable European and national standards, and are aimed at verifying the level of safety and compliance with technical requirements.

Road Restriction Systems

Road restraint systems are an important piece of infrastructure that enhance traffic safety by reducing the impact of accidents and protecting road users.

Scope of research:
The research covers various types of traffic safety devices, including:

  • guardrails
  • crash cushions
  • barrier ends
  • barrier connections
  • railings for vehicles

Tests are conducted in accordance with the requirements of European standards, in particular:

  • PN-EN 1317-1:2010
  • PN-EN 1317-2:2010
  • PN-EN 1317-3:2010
  • PN-EN 1317-4:2010

The research makes it possible to assess the effectiveness of safety systems and their ability to reduce the consequences of traffic collisions.

Support structures for road equipment

Support structures are the infrastructure component responsible for the installation and stability of roadside equipment, such as signage and lighting.

Components studied:

  • light poles
  • electricity poles
  • traffic sign supports
  • information board supports
  • multi-legged structures

The tests are performed in accordance with the requirements of the standards:

  • PN-EN 12767:2019-12
  • PN-EN 1317-1:2010

The purpose of the research is to evaluate the safety of structures in the event of collisions and their resistance to loads occurring during operation.
