The Analytical Laboratory provides laboratory services in the areas of fuels, biofuels, petroleum products, and performs research and development work in the field of technology of motor vehicle fuels, heating oils, biocomponents, biofuels, alternative fuels.

The laboratory implements, among other things:

  • Testing the chemical composition and physical and chemical properties of fuels, biocomponents, biofuels, alternative fuels, fuel oils, petroleum products,
  • Testing of octane and cetane numbers of fuels, biofuels, alternative fuels in engine tests,
  • Assessment of the quality of fuels, petroleum products in relation to normative requirements and legal regulations,
  • Fuel quality monitoring,
  • Identification of customer needs for testing of petroleum products and fuels and selection of testing methods to meet customer needs,
  • Sampling of liquid fuels, LPG, biocomponents, biofuels, alternative fuels,
  • Development of expert opinions on the quality of fuels, biofuels, biocomponents, petroleum products.

Key research positions:

  • An engine stand for testing the cetane number,
  • An engine stand for testing octane numbers.

Key measurement and testing equipment:

  • Gas chromatographs equipped with flame-ionization, thermal-conductivity and mass detectors,
  • Liquid chromatograph with refractometric detector,
  • IR spectrometer,
  • UV VIS spectrophotometers,
  • apparatus for determining sulfur in liquid and gaseous fuels,
  • apparatuses for testing the lubricity of fuels and the lubricating properties of petroleum products,
  • Instruments for testing the stability of fuels, biofuels and biocomponents, petroleum products,
  • Apparatuses for testing the physical and chemical properties of petroleum products, fuels and biocomponents,
  • LPG property testing apparatuses.

The laboratory also carries out research and development work, including:

  • Evaluation of the properties of low-temperature fuel components and finished fuels,
  • Evaluation of thermo-oxidative stability of fuel components and finished fuels,
  • Evaluation of the anticorrosive properties of fuel components and finished fuels,
  • Assessing the storage stability of fuels using accelerated aging tests,
  • Assessing the performance characteristics of fuels and petroleum products in performance testing.
